Welcome to my website! This is a website I created entirely from scratch as a project to show my passion for computer science. With a little help from AWS, Luke.Hatherly.com is now a fully functional website anyone can visit.

In this website I will be talking to you about what game development really is, my background of the topic, and why you should care about it.

Game development is a huge area of computer science with a massive reach across the globe. Have you ever played a video game? If you have, you just experienced years of hard work, dedication, and skill packaged up into one game. Games are more than just a convenient escape from life - they are a product that takes a long time and many people working together to create.

There are so many different jobs involved with the task of making a game:

• Level designers, meticulously placing every platform and wall to ensure the game stays fun and challenging
• System designers, balancing the game's systems like in game economies and character development for constant, linear progression
• Narrative designers, creating vivid storylines and weaving in threads of lore and fantasy into the gameplay experience
• UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) designers, crafting the layout and menus that guide you through the game
• Game artists, slowly drawing a detailed environment that fully immerses the player into the game world
• And so many more

Game development is beyond just coding - it's a massive area that includes so many different jobs and skills, all coming together to create an amazing escape from reality in a finalised game.
